Established in 2018, Heart Heroes supports both children and families affected by life long heart conditions through inclusive projects, subsidised trips and events, family support in hospital, mental health and well-being support, and much more!
The Heart Heroes pathway is designed to support Heart families from pre-birth through to adulthood.
Our ongoing support networks include family support in hospital, family days out and events, support via our online portal, online resources, play therapy, family facebook page and bereavement support.
In addition to the ongoing support available for families, we also offer age specific projects for Heart Heroes to have fun, build confidence and receive the support they need.
Heart Heroes currently support 800+ families, but in the south-west alone there are 7500 families with a child who has a heart condition
Heart defects are diagnosed in at least 1 in 150 births - that's an average of 13 babies each day in the UK - with more diagnoses later in life
Heart defects are the most common congenital anomaly in babies born in the UK
Estimates suggest that in total as many as 1-2 per cent of the population may be affected
Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It affects around 1 in 500 people in the UK
Kelly Cornish
Founder of Heart Heroes
As founder of Heart Heroes I am very passionate and proud of the charity. We are extremely lucky to have a great group of people who are equally dedicated and passionate about making a difference.
I’ve recently celebrated 20 years of marriage and have 3 children, Tilly (20), Joel (18), and Ayla (12). After leaving school I trained in childcare in a day nursery and then continued to work as a nanny. I have worked in various childcare settings and volunteered for many years in charities and my children’s schools.
Five years in to Heart Heroes and we are going from strength to strength, it’s thanks to all who are part of the team; employees, volunteers, supporters and Heart Families.
