The Big Heart Build is a community project, so anyone can help by volunteering a few hours, making a donation or donating building materials.
Working in collaboration with The Sand Academies Trust and Gloucester City Council, we have secured a spacious property with grounds on the Willow site in Tuffley. The property will form the new ‘HQ’ and also enable us to host meetings, events, support groups and activity workshops!
The building requires a complete re-fit, with a recent survey identifying the need for a new kitchen, bathroom, glazing, an electrical refit as well as some structural work and landscaping. Every penny helps so hit the button to donate!
Despite some unforeseen delays, we have already made amazing progress! Our Forest School garden is blooming, the roof and guttering has been taken care of, new external doors have been fitted and all the internal demolition has been completed. We’re now looking for plumbers, electricians, plasterers and general builders to help with the next phase of the project. If you’d like to volunteer, help with materials or make a donation, please click the button below to get in touch.
Kelly Cornish
Heart Heroes Founder and Trustee
“We’re thrilled to be working in partnership with SAND Academies Trust and the council to provide even more opportunities for children and their families living with heart conditions in Gloucestershire. This will provide a safe, warm space, where they can be supported and spend time with other families,” said Kelly.
“When a child is diagnosed with a heart condition – which can happen just hours or days after they are born – it is a huge shock to the parents and family. Heart Heroes supports these families, and the new space will enable us to do this even more effectively.”
Martin Hughes
CEO Sands Trust
“Both the SAND Academies Trust and Heart Heroes are organisations that have a remarkably similar ethos; we both put young people at the heart of everything we do.
Therefore, it is only natural that the Academy Trust is more than delighted to work with and support the team at Heart Heroes to provide a space for the them to continue to provide help to children living with Heart Conditions, providing physical, educational and emotional support. We look forward to a collaborative and long-standing relationship!”
