Are you a parent or caregiver of a child with a cardiac condition?
Bristol Hospital are running an online group for parents called Take a Breath. This group is uses
principles from a type of psychological therapy called Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
(ACT).
Due to feedback they have now changed the times and dates for these to take place - please see below!
What is the Take A Breath group?
The Take A Breath group has been specially designed for parents of children aged 0-18 who have a long-term health condition. The group uses principles from a type of psychological therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This is called ACT for short.
Take A Breath aims to give you some practical skills to help you live in line with your values, alongside the uncertainty that being a parent to a child with a cardiac condition may bring.
As part of the Take A Breath group, a variety of skills will be taught including mindfulness, identifying what really matters to you and unhooking from distressing thoughts.
We recognise how powerful peer support can be and how much parents value learning from each other. There will be opportunities to reflect and share your own experiences with other parents in the group, if you wish to share your story.
How many sessions are there and when will it run?
There will be five weekly sessions followed by a booster session. Each session will run from 6pm – 7.30pm on the following dates:
Session 1: Wednesday 12th November 2025
Session 2: Wednesday 19th November 2025
Session 3: Wednesday 26th November 2025
Session 4: Wednesday 3rd December 2025
Session 5: Wednesday 10th December 2025
