NHS-funded patient transport

You may be eligible for free non-emergency patient transport services. These services provide transport to and from hospital for people who have a medical need for it.

Find out if you are entitled to NHS free hospital transport by phoning the NHS Patient Transport Advice Centre on 01278 727444 between 8.30am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. You will need to provide the following details when you call:

Name and address

Date of birth

Telephone or contact number

NHS number*

GP details

Details of treatment

The hospital you are attending

Time, date and expected duration of the appointment

Department and consultant details

Type of appointment (i.e. outpatient, day case, discharge).

* Your NHS Number can be found on your appointment letter, via your GP or other health professional who is treating you.

£2 Bus Fare Cap

The previous government introduced a £2 cap on single bus fares in England outside London from 1 January 2023 until the end of 2024 to help passengers save on their regular travel costs and encourage more people to use the bus.

This takes total government investment in the scheme to nearly £600 million.

Planning your journey

The Traveline journey planner will show you if your route is eligible, so why not plan your journey by bus today? Whether you are heading into town or looking to save on your commute – £2 single tickets will continue to run until 31 December 2024.

Minor changes may be made as we receive final details from operators.

A full list of participating operators and eligible routes can be found by clicking this link.

Please keep checking your services for updates.
