Ten-year-old Maisie and her teammates from the under-11 Undy Girls football team took to the Severn Bridge on Sunday, 3rd November 2024, completing a unique fundraising challenge to support Heart Heroes and their team’s winter kit fund.
Maisie, who underwent major heart surgery in April to repair a large hole in her heart, led the initiative. “The night before my surgery, Heart Heroes gave me a special teddy bear with a passport and stickers for each hospital ward I visited,” Maisie shared. “It made me feel happy and gave me something to focus on during a tough time.”
Inspired by this support, Maisie and her teammates set out to raise funds not only for Heart Heroes but also for their own winter football kits to keep them warm during matches. “I can finally play again in November, and having a warm kit will help me too,” Maisie said.
The girls kicked off their walk at B&M in Bulwark, Chepstow, and dribbled footballs across the bridge both ways in their kits. Joined by family, friends, and supporters, the team’s determination shone through, completing the challenge with enthusiasm.
The current total is an incredible £1,930, which will be divided between Heart Heroes and the winter kits fund. “Every donation means the world to me and my team,” Maisie said.
A huge well done to everyone involved!
