Introducing Caboodle, the new Intergenerational Project

Heart Heroes charity has joined forces with another Gloucestershire charity, Lilian Faithfull Care, to bring you “Caboodle,” a new Intergenerational Project.

Caboodle starts on 29 September at Astell House care home in Cheltenham, where the Heart Heroes children and care home’s elderly residents will join together and enjoy a meaningful morning of music and companionship.Named Caboodle, the project is about bringing the younger Heart Heroes generation together with the care home’s older generation, enjoy connecting over an activity, and benefiting from each other’s company.

A local charity group called Mindsong, who visit Astell House regularly, will be kindly providing a wonderful interactive activity of music and song. A magical activity with no age limits and which everyone can enjoy.  Following the lovely activity time, Astell House catering team will put on their usual delicious afternoon tea with cakes and refreshments for everyone.

It’s proven that both the children and the elderly benefit from these events. Helping children build confidence when challenged with unfamiliar surroundings, and improve their self-esteem. And the same with elderly, who enjoy the company and the interaction with children

It’s said, that the more time young and old people spend together, the more both parties benefit. Children have a warm and infectious energy, which can help to bring so much joy to the older generation. In fact, research shows that connecting youths with seniors can help to boost confidence, increase communication and improve memory.

Lisa Ferneyhough-Moss, Deputy Director of Care Operations at Lilian Faithfull Care charity commented, “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the Heart Heroes children, and adults, to Astell House and introducing them to our residents. Before Covid, our resident would thoroughly enjoy visits from the local community schools and groups, and their faces would light up from the children’s laughter and chatter. Heart Heroes is a brilliant charity and we are very excited to be the first place to host ‘Caboodle’ and to support the children’s well-being.”

Astell House is one of five Lilian Faithfull Care’s care homes in Gloucestershire, where the charity has been caring for people and providing a ‘home for life’ promise since 1946.

Quote from HH ‘We are beyond excited to be launching our “Caboodle’ project whilst working with the amazing Lilian Faithfull Care Charity. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our young Heart Heroes to interact with our older generation, who knows there maybe a “Heart Hero” amongst them’. morning
