The ‘Official’ Virtual Great North Run

This year is different. We won’t be on the start line, we aren’t waiting for you at the finish, you won’t have thousands cheering you on… But you can still Be Your Greatest!

The ‘Official’ Virtual Great North Run will be a unique virtual half marathon race experience on the weekend that would have been Great North Run weekend. The event is free to participate in and is open for all runners, whether they had a Great North Run place or not. Entries open on Monday 3rd August so mark the date in your diary, come back to sign up and join us on the start line!

We’re encouraging all runners who take part to run in aid of Heart Heroes and encourage your friends, family and wider supporter network to rally behind you as you embark on your virtual Great North Run experience.

This year is different, but you can still Be Your Greatest 💪!

Virtual Afternoon Tea

Tea up for Gloucester charity which managed a lockdown get-together

Gloucester charity Heart Heroes found a ‘pret-tea’ good way to mark international #GivingTuesdayNow day during lockdown.

It hosted a virtual tea party, where everyone taking part took delivery of a boxed cream tea, courtesy of local caterer QuinTeaCentral, and they all joined in online.

The virtual tea party was the brainwave of Kelly Cornish, founder of Heart Heroes, which supports children with heart conditions and their families.

So many of their events have been cancelled or postponed during lockdown, she wanted to find a way of getting everyone together, even if they couldn’t be in the same venue.

“We have had tea parties before and everyone has enjoyed them,” said Kelly. “I thought we could tie this event in with the #givingtuesdaynow hashtag, and get everyone together online instead. The children taking part loved chatting, and telling us what they have been up to.”

The teas were provided at cost by QuinTeaCentral’s owners, Helen Andrews and Sarah Hayter. Helen said: “We are always happy to help Heart Heroes. In the past, when they have had a tea party we have provided the cream teas and also vintage china. This time, it was a little bit different but I think it worked well.”

For more information about Heart Heroes and the work they do to support families in Gloucestershire and throughout the South West, visit https://heartheroes.co.uk/ or send an email to Kelly at email@heartheroes.co.uk.
